What are the Different Grades of Willow Used at SQR Cut Cricket?
At SQR Cut Cricket, our willow selection is carefully divided into five distinct categories:
· Limited Edition
· Elite
· Pro Performance
· Performance
· Select
These categories are based purely on the visual appearance of the willow, rather than its quality. Every bat we sell is crafted to high standards and ensures excellent performance. A Limited Edition bat will perform just as effectively as a Select bat; the only difference lies in their aesthetics. Recognising the importance of transparency, we have provided further information to help our customers make informed choices about their purchases. Our primary aim is to be open and honest with our customers, delivering a service that reflects our integrity.
Does the Grade of Willow Affect Performance?
Every willow cleft is unique, much like individual players who require tailored coaching to bring out their best. Regardless of grade, willow is a natural material, and no two clefts are the same. At SQR Cut Cricket, we treat and nurture each bat individually to maximise its performance. Whether you choose a 'Limited Edition' or a 'Select' model, you can be assured that all our bats are designed to deliver excellent 'ping' and quality performance on the field.
Why Does Willow Have Different Price Points?
The price of willow is primarily influenced by market forces, including supply and demand. Currently, there is a high demand for willow clefts that have a clean face with straight, multiple grains. Such willow is rare because it takes longer to grow, resulting in limited supply and higher costs. Essentially, the rarer and more desirable the willow (as dictated by fashion trends rather than performance), the higher the price. Conversely, more plentiful willow comes at a lower cost due to reduced demand.
How Do You Ensure Longevity and Strength Within Your Bats?
We pride ourselves on producing bats that are long-lasting, sustainable, and high-performing. To achieve this, we use only the finest materials for all parts of the bat, including the handle and binding. Unlike some manufacturers, we avoid the trend for thin handles, as they tend to compromise the bat’s balance and are weaker at the critical 'break point' where the handle meets the cleft. Additionally, we reinforce the 'toes' of our bats to ensure they are robust and durable. Our bats feature noticeably 'meatier' toes, which further support balance, enhance performance, and contribute to the bat’s longevity.
What Is the Best Way to Knock-In a Bat, and How Will I Know It Is Ready to Use?
All our bats, irrespective of their shape, grade, or weight, come pre-knocked in and are ready for immediate use. However, to achieve optimal performance and ensure longevity, we recommend following these steps:
Before using the bat in cricket nets or a match, start with gentle throw downs using a quality cricket ball.
Gradually increase the pace and intensity of the throw downs as you build confidence.
Move on to using the bat in indoor or outdoor nets, facing bowling like what you would encounter in a match situation.
Once you are fully satisfied with the bat’s performance, you can begin using it in your cricket fixtures.
Warning
To further protect your bat and reduce the risk of damage, please observe the following precautions:
Always use a high-quality cricket ball, both in practice and in matches. Poor-quality balls can cause considerable damage.
Avoid exposing your bat to harsh weather conditions. Excessive heat can dry out the willow causing the bat to become brittle, while damp or wet conditions can also be detrimental, as this moisture can get into the fibres of the bat, reducing its quality and performance.
Store your bat in a dry, cool environment.
